Slight relapse

I can say with certainty that THE most important part of our body is the foot! If something goes wrong with it, it sucks! :-)
I may never wear heels again - as a preventative measure.

After a couple of nights of abnormal pain (of a more intensive kind than I had been having) my doctor had me go in and he cut off the cast to have a look. It was just as I suspected - covering stitches with a cast is just not a good idea! The section along the side of my foot has been "weeping" and is "soft" but not really infected. I am going onto antibiotics anyway.

A patch, about 2" square, below my toes is dead. The doctor called it numb. I call it d-e-a-d! The hideous, stinging, burning pain goes from the second last toe (which is also dead along with the little toe) through that dead square to the outer ankle bone. It is weird that something so dead can be feeling such pain! The doctor assures me that it is just numb and that feeling is going to come back, but that it might take up to 6 months. I have to say that all those screaming nerves are way past irritating!

So, after dolloping some antibiotic cream on the stitches, a new cast was put on, my Lyrica dosage was increased and I got a script for antibiotics. I requested a green cast today, but they had run out of that so I went back into purple. (I resisted the urge to go with pink - too much Cindy McCain).

I can move my toes - but not much. While I was lying on my stomach having the new cast put on the doctor asked me to wriggle my toes. Then he repeated it. I said "I AM" ... LOL. It felt like moderate movement to me but must have actually been pretty miniscule! My homework is to keep wriggling whenever I think of it - it will help the nerves re-establish themselves and will help loosen the tendon which is going to be tight with all that stitching.

I took my camera today and took some photos of the stitches. I don't want to gross anyone out so I won't post them here in the actual post but I will put one in the "photo" section for the ghouls or curious.

Here is one I can share - the discarded cast. It is sort of scary having it sawn off but the little blade will not cut skin - it quite literally will not cut skin.

With the exception of two days after the surgery (when I was heavily bandaged & had a splint on) I have now been in a cast since July 18th ! And, I have 4 more weeks to go! One more week off work - one more week of daytime telly!

Crashes and Classes, Glasses and Games

The "Clashing Combines" derby Wednesday night was a hoot! It was exactly what the name promised, a demolition derby for combines (large farming vehicles, for you city folk *wink*). It was awesome, and yet slow. Those leviathans of the field... well they don't exactly have a lot of pick-up. It was like watching a tortoise fight, but when something did break, it broke spectacularly! It was a good time and I hope we can go again next year.

The demolition derby last night was even more awesome after watching the slower heats from the night before. I'm such a bad hippie when it comes to these events, 'cause I do love me some mayhem, Mayhem, MAYHEM! I love the noise and the spraying mud, the crunching metal and the warm glow of all the "CHECK ENGINE" lights. We even got rained on last night, and I still had a blast!

And might I just mention once again that I have the best husband in the world! I was really super out of it yesterday, fighting some major fatigue, well, not really fighting so much as getting my ass kicked by it. He came home from work and went to the store to pick up some stuff we needed, something I should've done earlier in the day, He also brought back some yummy stuff for my lunch today, and a huge energy drink that we split. Then we went out to grab some dinner, had some great conversation and then on to the derby. I felt like cold crap for most of yesterday, but from the time he came home the day took a major turn for the better. *love*

My most exciting news at the moment is that yesterday I signed Craig and I up for drawing classes at the museum!!! YAY, CLASSES!!! We both ~~have~~had decent skills once upon a time, but they've near expired from lack of use. Over the past few years we've both tried to revive our drawing talents, we've both picked up several books on technique, several sketch pads, a few types of pencils, and yet we just haven't been able to get back into it. Not only do I think it's going to be awesome to take a class together, and an art class at that(!), but I think our artistic talents definitely need the help of an instructor right now, and some homework assignments wouldn't hurt either. Even if we only get those two hours of practice once a week for the next ten weeks, that's still far more practice than we've been getting. I'm so very excited about this class!!!

So yesterday was the derby and class registration and fatigue and ... oh yeah, the glass incident. See, I was feeling crappy, like really crappy, and I thought a little fun activity might boost my energy, so I put in Wii Sports and I boxed a few rounds and then started one of the fitness routines. The boxing went well, hitting tennis balls was fun, hitting baseballs, no problem, and then it was bowling time. I had a tight hold on the Wii remote, I had the strap tightened around my wrist, what I didn't realize, until I threw my first ball, was that I also had my water glass on the coffee table right in front of me. Yeah. I didn't just knock it over, I hit it so hard the the whole top of the glass disappeared and water went everywhere and yet the glass remained upright. I spent 45 minutes cleaning that up. I found tiny, shiny shards of glass *everywhere*. I even had to shake some out of my keyboard. I got a towel to wipe up the water, and the towel was filled with tiny, shiny shards of glass. I got a few minor cuts cleaning it up, even got one little shard stuck in my finger. Good times. Yeah.. So when you're playing Wii and clicking past the same safety warnings you've seen a hundred times, remember those warnings are there for a reason. *sigh*

To sum up: I love the derbies, I love my husband, I LOVE that I'll be taking an art class with my husband (BFF), and watch out for water glasses when playing Wii Bowling (seriously!).

OH! And Jasmine is sounding a little better finally. She's still congested, but not so completely. And she's not fight taking her meds as much. Major YAY! on both counts!!!

Fish for Dinner?

A 20 year ban on Fish for Dinner was lifted this last week after Jamie finally decided "Hey, fish isn't so bad after all!" Her family had to readjust to the new found taste. No one died from the event (except for a fish).

SURPRISED

Yes, we had fish last night. Tuna to be exact. Last week we had something else - I think it was supposed to be halibut but ended up being cod because our local store doesn't know what halibut is. I'm lucky they know what canned Tuna is. That's easily the first fish EVER in our current house, and I don't recall ever eating it in the apartment before that. So that's at least 20 years. Oh, I've had fish myself when we go out from time to time, but Jamie would never touch it. Shrimp - yep. Crabs - maybe sometimes. Scallops... I don't recall. I know I like them. I like just about all seafood. I've even been known to eat fried oysters when I was a kid, but at some point I couldn't stomach that weird thing in the middle anymore and I'm sure I'll continue to avoid them. Plus there was all that hype in the 80's where someone would eat raw oysters and wake up 10 years later from a coma and wonder what happened to all their favorite shows on TV.

Jamie put aside her fears of fish or fish taste or whatever kept her from making or even eating it and took
the plunge. When I was a kid, we had fish all the time, at least during the summer. Mostly fish that we'd caught. My mom was on the other end of the spectrum:

"Mama, can we have Tuna?"
"Tuna!? - You expect me to cook a can? Now go out and play your foozball while I cook this snake!"

Mom would only cook spot and croaker that we'd caught. I don't think she ever bought fresh fish. I remember it because she'd always cook too much and I had to take some over to the neighbor. Mom also had a tendency to make these Salmon croquettes which WERE from a can and ALWAYS had bones in them - that were okay to eat because they'd been cooked forever - gross!

I don't see Jamie embracing spot or croaker yet, but there is always hope. For now, I'll just savor the fish, er, moment.

i'm a little late on the bandwagon in posting these promos that britney did with russell brand to promote the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. this is mostly due to the fact that i don't have cable anymore and have been reading instead of watching t.v. lately. luckily i managed to snagged these from online to show to you! (watch them soon because mtv keeps pulling them off).

britney looks really cute in these promos - and i like her extensions (for once!). i am still bewildered as to why MTV chose the relative unknown (at least in the united states) russell brand to host this year's awards show. its a pretty big year for the show too since its the 25th anniversary of the VMA's being on the air. i did catch him in forgetting sarah marshall and he was pretty funny in it so there is a chance that he will do a good job. i guess people tune in to see the VMAs despite who hosts so maybe its not a big deal at all.

but the biggest news of all is that...drumroll please...

BRITNEY IS OPENING THE SHOW AGAIN THIS YEAR!!!!!!!

i thought i was losing my mind when i read the headlines but its TRUE! its completely bizarre since she opened the show last year! and i think we all remember what a trainwreck that performance was. you *know* i love her but she didn't prepare as much as she could have and she stumbled her way through the show. i got my hopes really fucking high up there last year...and of course it is happening all over again for this year! they are even higher then last year because i have seen all the progress that britney has made over the past couple months since she kicked sam lutfi out of her life. she really seems to have her life back on track. i know that this year's performance is gonna blow everyone out of the water. i can't fucking wait!!!!!
